Privacy Policy

How Erasemetadata handles files, what is processed in your browser, and what limited data we collect.

Last updated: 2026-10-29

The short version

Your files are processed in your browser and are never uploaded. There is no endpoint that accepts file contents, and the tools continue to work after you disconnect from the network.

We collect as little as possible: standard server logs from our hosting provider, and — only if analytics is enabled — aggregated page-view data.

Files you open in the tools

All metadata inspection and removal happens on your device using the browser's File API and Web Workers.

  • No file, filename, or file-derived data is transmitted to us.
  • No copy of your file is stored on our servers.
  • No account is required, and we do not build a profile of what you process.
  • The original file on your device is never modified; the cleaned copy is downloaded separately.

You can verify this: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and process a file. You will see no request carrying the file.

Information we collect

When you visit the site, our hosting provider records standard request logs:

  • IP address, truncated or retained only as required for security
  • browser type and operating system
  • the page requested and the referring page
  • timestamps

We use these logs to keep the service available, diagnose errors and prevent abuse. They are not used to identify individual visitors.

We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookie-less measurement service that reports aggregate page views, referrers and country. It does not use cookies, does not fingerprint visitors and does not receive the contents of your files.

If Google Analytics is enabled, we use it to understand aggregate usage: page views, country, device category and referral source. That data is aggregated and does not include the contents of your files. You can block it with any content blocker or browser setting.

If advertising is enabled, third-party advertising partners may set cookies to measure and personalise ads. Where required by law, we ask for consent before non-essential cookies are set. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing the site's cookies.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell personal information.
  • We do not upload, store or inspect your files.
  • We do not require an account to use the tools.
  • We do not use the contents of your files to train models.

Legal bases (EEA/UK)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on:

  • Legitimate interests for security logs and keeping the service working.
  • Consent for analytics and advertising cookies, where consent is required.
  • Contract where processing is necessary to provide a service you requested.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of your personal data, to object to processing, and to data portability. Because we do not hold file contents or accounts, most requests will concern server logs or analytics data. Contact us at the address below and we will respond within the period required by law.

Data retention

Server logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting, then deleted or aggregated. Analytics data is retained according to the analytics provider's settings.

Third parties

  • Cloudflare — hosting, network security and cookie-less Web Analytics.
  • Google Analytics — aggregate usage measurement, if enabled.
  • Google AdSense or another ad network — advertising, if enabled.

Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy.

Children

The service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the service handles data, we will update this page and its date. Material changes will be announced on the site.
